Our Theme Speaker for 2006: John Bowen

The end of Christendom seems scary in many ways. Instead of being a respected pillar of society, the church is now one minority among many, and increasingly marginalised. Yet this can be a great opportunity to discover afresh what it really means to be a Christian and to be a member of the Christian church. Not least, maybe there are spiritual realities which disappeared from view during the days of the church’s power.

This weekend will look at some of those realities, particularly the themes of church, discipleship and evangelism.
We will look at them through the lens of Luke 24, the story of the road to Emmaus, which reminds us that as we
walk through this increasingly unfamiliar world, we walk with Jesus.

John Bowen teaches evangelism at Wycliffe College in Toronto, where he also directs the Institute of Evangelism.
He is author of the award-wining “Evangelism for ‘Normal’ People” (Augsburg Fortress 2002) and of numerous booklets and articles. John and his wife Deborah are members of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Hamilton.
