53rd Weekend 2001
June 1-3

Featured speaker: The Reverend Joseph Russell, church educator, liturgist, and conference leader in the Episcopal Church in the US.

A gifted story-teller who will share with us how to 'Put Life in our Worship and Worship in Our Lives'. He will provide us with an opportunity to explore the power of worship to form Christians in every generation. He will share with us how we are formed in story, in prayer and sacrament and praise, in Word and poetic imagery, and in the whole life of the worshipping community.

Rev'd Joseph P. Russell is a well known church educator, liturgist and conference leader in the Episcopal Church. He is co-author of "Aslan on the Move" (Leader Resources), author of "Sharing Our Biblical Story: A Guide to Using Liturgical Readings as the Core of Church and Family Education", editor of "The New Prayer Book Guide to Christian Education", and wrote the "Daily Lectionary: A Weekly Guide for Daily Bible Readings." Russell served as one of the writers of the United Church of Christ lectionary based curriculum, "The Inviting Word." He wrote a study guide for the important Christian education resource, "Called to Teach and Learn" published by the Episcopal Church Center.

Russell served two parishes in the Diocese of Oregon and, before retirement, was Canon of Education and Program in the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. He served on the Standing Liturgical Commission of the national church, and was chair of the Consultation on Common Texts, the ecumenical body responsible for the Revised Common lectionary. Forward Movement is publishing his booklet, "Introducing the Revised Common Lectionary to the Episcopal Church" -- available this spring.
