"Returning from Exile"- 53rd
Weekend
2000
Elective
sessions
Drawing
Spirituality with Celtic Knots
Many
famous works of religious art feature intricate
weave-like patterns called
"Celtic Knotwork". Similar designs
- found in church
architecture, sacred vessels, vestments and stained glass
- are not merely
ornamental: they hide profound spiritual significance.
Anyone who can draw
a dot and a line can learn the authentic medieval method
of drawing knots -
no "artistic" aptitude is required. You will
be drawing knots
within minutes, exploring an historic spirituality that
is easy, playful,
and thoughtful enjoyment.
Facilitator Brian Dench is a priest in
the diocese of Toronto, a full-time
graphic artist and author of "The
Knotty Book". Brian is a former
president of the Calligraphic Arts
Guild of Toronto. Additional Materials
fee: $20.00 includes a copy of
"The Knotty Book"

the world it
means? This elective is for those who would like to learn one
method among
many for rendering a faithful interpretation of the Bible.
Learn how to put
the eyes of faith to work so that God's Word can be heard
today. Especially
suited for those who are called upon to interpret the
Gospel with their
voice and
their words... Lectors, Cantors, Homilists, and Intercessors
who help us
respond in prayer. Everyone from the beginner to the expert is
welcome.
Facilitator Rev. Todd Townsend is priest of the diocese
and a graduate student

Singing with Freedom
We will sing! Music from Common Praise will be
the focus of
our work along with other sources. We will explore how to sing
with
freedom: singing techniques for the individual voice, preparing
and
presenting our music, nurturing the 'song' of the congregation, and
worship
planning that includes singing for all ages and singing in
conjunction with
other worship arts.
Come and sing some old and
learn some new favourite hymns for yourself and
your congregation. Learn
about the voice as an instrument and how to keep
it healthy and in tune!
Bring along your copy of Common Praise if you would
like to make notes in
it!
Our concert artist, Debbie Lou Ludolf will facilitate this
exciting elective
using her formal training, performance experience and
ecumenical background.
